I have been thinking about what I wanted to talk to you guys about next, and I kept returning to deodorant. Maybe it’s because we recently brought in two new brands with deodorants in their product line, and maybe it’s because, like most humans, I use deodorant every day…maybe it’s both.
But also, I recently did some “research” on why using a natural deodorant is so important. I’ve decided to share my newfound wisdom with you, and here it is!
What’s the deal with deodorant?
Traditional deodorants and antiperspirants usually contain toxic chemicals, including aluminum, parabens, and synthetic fragrances.
And I know that words like “toxic” and “parabens” have probably been flooding your news feeds, and you’re honestly probably thinking, “So what??”.
I won’t lie to you; I used to think the same way. That is, until I found out what these ingredients could potentially do to my body, and probably already were.
For example, Aluminum, found in most store-bought deodorants, is a sweat-blocking ingredient that is like “yay” but also a hard NO.
Research shows that Aluminum has been a suspected contributor to Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer. Parabens are sneaky little buggers too.
Scientists believe that Parabens used in deodorants could be responsible for the accelerated growth of tumors in the breast.
And listen, I’m not here to tell you that you’ll get sick using a store-bought deodorant. A lot of very credible sources say that it’s not that bad for you at all.
However, I am here to provide you with some information so you can make the best choice for YOU. Even if the risk of using ANY product with aluminum, parabens, or sulfates is low, I’m just not willing to take that risk. When you know better, you do better at the end of the day.
This is why Avalon and I started this passion project turned business called Vossity. It’s never been about telling our consumers they’re wrong for using certain products; it’s always been about educating people on ingredients and giving them better options.
So, with that said, below, I have provided a complete list of the current natural deodorants we carry and why we love them so much. And yes, natural deodorants DO work!
Fable Naturals
One of the first companies to join our Vossity family is also one of our most popular when it comes to underarms. It comes in the perfect-sized jar and smells fantastic.
You can choose from Tea Tree & Cedar or Lemon & Eucalyptus; you can’t go wrong either way. The number one thing we hear about this brand is, “OMG, IT WORKS!” And we’re like, “Ya, it’s amazing!”. And then we laugh and laugh and go to Hot Yoga and not smell bad because this natural deodorant does work.
Lavami
With two natural deodorants to choose from (Breeze and Cedarwood), we love this brand because they’re local! Like Fable, the deodorants come in a jar and can be applied using your fingertips. The nice thing about this brand is that it will last a long time. A little goes a long way, people!!
Kaia Naturals
Kaia is a little different than our other two brands. They have the Takesumi Detox with activated charcoal, and their deodorant comes in packaging similar to the deodorants you see in stores but cooler.
Don’t get freaked out when you order and read about the “purging phase” while using this deodorant. Just keep using it and thank us later.
The Takesumi detox pulls out toxins from your sweat glands, so you might sweat a little more than you usually do for a little while.
But don’t worry, that goes away quickly, leaving you with sweat-free and glorious-smelling underarms. And trust me, the scents are AMAZING.
I encourage everyone to try a natural deodorant at least once. And if you’ve tried one and had a bad experience, try ours.
